Our Mark Steines sat down with superstar Leonardo DiCaprio to talk about his new suspense thriller ‘Shutter Island,’ and the role which he says, “challenged the hell out of me.“
Calling it the “most intense” role he’s played so far, DiCaprio plays a federal marshal searching for an escaped patient from a hospital for the criminally insane and tells Mark they shot the movie in a former mental ward.
“It was eroded and degraded and it certainly gave a texture to the movie,” he says. “It becomes its own character.“
‘Shutter Island’ marks the fourth collaboration between the actor and director Martin Scorsese and he explains to Mark what makes their bond so unique.
“It’s truly just a trust thing at this point,” DiCaprio says. “I’ve been very fortunate. Thankfully he’s had a role for me in each of these movies.“

Leonardo DiCaprio re-teams with legendary director Martin Scorsese February 19 for the taut thriller ‘Shutter Island,’ and we have an exclusive sneak peek behind the scenes!
“There’s so many twists and so many turns,” says Leo.
In the movie, Leo and Mark Ruffalo play a federal marshals searching for an escaped patient from a hospital for the criminally insane.
“There’s no way she could have possibly escaped this island,” explains Leo. “She would have to go through thick, dense forests and climb down jagged rocks, to swim miles and miles to shore — and it seems like there’s some sort of conspiracy going on.“
‘Shutter Island’ marks Leo and Scorsese’s fourth film together, and the Oscar-winning director says, “I immediately agreed he should do it, because I knew by this point we have a way of working together now.“
Helping run the eerie facility is Sir Ben Kingsley, and he says he’s also thrilled to work with Scorsese, saying, “He is inexhaustible, profoundly gifted, and I’m very privileged to be working with him.“
Paramount Pictures has released several high resolution still/behind-the-scenes images from the upcoming movie “Shutter Island” which will hit theaters on February 19, 2010. Some really great photos, so make sure to check them out in the gallery.

Leo’s money will go to near-term and long-term earthquake recovery through Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $1 million to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. The actor, who will be on hand Friday night (January 22) for MTV’s “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” telethon, is the latest Hollywood A-lister to donate a large amount to help Haiti’s recovery after last Tuesday’s 7.0 earthquake.
The money will be paid out through the Leonardo DiCaprio Fund and will go to support the near-term assistance and long-term recovery efforts, People reported.
“I salute Leonardo DiCaprio for his extraordinary generosity,” former President George W. Bush said in a statement. “This donation sends a clear message to the people of Haiti that America’s commitment to helping rebuild their country is strong. I thank Leo for setting a wonderful example for all Americans of helping a neighbor in need.”
I just have to say I am incredibly proud of Leo being so kind and generous!
Leonardo DiCaprio needed to unwind after presenting the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award to director Martin Scorsese so the actor found his way to one of the Beverly Hilton’s hottest spots. Immediately following the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the actor was among the first to arrive at the In Style/Warner Bros. party. Once inside the spectacular tent, he headed out to the smoking lounge to light up a cigar. That’s where GlamChic caught up with DiCaprio to chat about his after party game plan. “I’m basically going clubbing tonight,” he said. “You know I have to make the rounds!” ~Nola Weinstein
Martin Scorsese has revealed Leonardo DiCaprio is his first choice to play Ol’ Blue Eyes in his upcoming biopic on Frank Sinatra. The Academy Award-winning director revealed he is in talks with DiCaprio and hopes he will play the American crooner in at least some portions of the film. DiCaprio has been a regular collaborator with Scorsese having worked with him on the upcoming thriller Shutter Island as well as Gangs Of New York, The Departed and The Aviator. The director has said the casting for the film will be difficult with different actors playing Frank Sinatra at different ages. “I think he can do it. I’m trying to talk him into it,” Scorsese said. “The issue would be you would have a younger Frank, then older Frank, then middle-aged Frank. It would go back and forwards in time.”
I hope Leo says yes, because he’d be perfect for this role! As one of the most brilliant actors, there’s simply no one better fitting than him!
