“Shutter Island” Premiere Arrival & Photo Call in Berlin, Germany
Leonardo DiCaprio understands the struggle some Hollywood legends face when their career start to wane, insisting it’s easy for stars to become detached from reality.
The actor has been a mainstay of the movie industry since his critically acclaimed turn in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” at age 19.
He became one of Hollywood’s hottest leading men after starring in James Cameron’s hugely successful “Titanic,” and has proved a hit at the box office ever since.
But DiCaprio doesn’t take his popularity for granted, insisting he can see how stars become “nuts” after falling for their own hype.
He tells “Access Hollywood,” “Just because you’ve done a good performance once, doesn’t mean you’re always going to be good. That’s why some of the greatest actors in the world have gone a little bit nuts. They’re saying to themselves, ‘What happened? You used to love me?‘
“It’s an easy trap to fall into. You just have to realize that when you’re hot, you’re hot, and when you’re not, you’re not.“
He is such a sweetheart! I’m sure his German mom made sure that he remains down-to-earth and laid-back as he is
. And that’s why fans love him so much. – Joey
Leo and Michelle hit the red carpet at the premiere of Shutter Island at the Berlin International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany on Saturday February 13, 2010.
Leonardo DiCaprio became a mental illness expert while researching his new thriller ‘Shutter Island’ – by spending hours watching dark documentaries.
The actor plays a detective trying to solve a missing persons mystery in an asylum in the new Martin Scorsese movie, and decided to study the mentally ill to perfect his role.
But admits he maybe took his homework a little too far: “There was a tremendous amount of research done involving the entrapments of mental illness and the suffering that people go through, so it led me to watch a lot of different documentaries on mental illness.”
“For a few weeks there, it was some of the most hardcore film experiences I’ve ever had. It was like reliving trauma in a way. It was pretty intense.“
And the intensity didn’t stop when filming began.
DiCaprio tells WENN, “We were surrounded by it (mental illness) every day. We were surrounded by dilapidated walls of an old mental institution. We had somebody there who was guiding us through the history of mental illness, the pathways of treating it and the different forms of treatment.“
As dedicated and talented Leo is, I’m sure the movie will be a great success!
Taking care of his promotional duties, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted at a photo call for his new film “Shutter Island” in Rome, Italy today (February 8).
The “Catch Me if You Can” stud was joined by director Martin Scorsese as he chatted with the press in the garden at Hotel Hassler in Trinita dei Monti.
In a recent interview, Leo explained that working with Scorsese again has been a blessing, as the veteran director has given him guidance throughout his career.
“He saved me. I was headed down a path of being one kind of actor, and he helped me become another one. The one I wanted to be.”
I am amazed how beautiful Leo looks. If I didn’t know he was really there, I’d think those photos are from the wax figure museum of Madam Tussaud’s.
