Many celebrities participate in charity events. Most celebrities donate to organizations, and support certain groups.

One celebrity, in particular, has given back to the community in many different ways. Leonardo DiCaprio has created the e-activism center in Santa Monica, California. Santa Monica happens to be Leonardo’s home town.

This center teaches children how to save the environment through certain building materials. In fact, he does practice what he preaches. The center is built with 60% less water than a standard building of the same size. The center collects rainfall and recycles the water used in sinks. This water also irrigates the landscaping, and flushes the toilets.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s e-activism Center also reduces energy by using as much natural light as possible. Everything is efficient, from the dimming lights down to the extra insulation.

This building is built only with recycled materials or recyclable materials.

” “Half of all the world’s materials and resources, half of all forests, go into building production. Buildings consume twice the energy of autos, and emit twice the amount of carbon dioxide,” says NRDC Senior Scientist Rob Watson. “They also consume 80% of drinking water.”

The goal of the activist center is for everyone to educated about the earth and how it needs to be conserved. Children attend his center for field trips yearly, and learn something new every time. Leonardo DiCaprio says, “For the thousands of young people who’ll visit this building each year, I hope it will be the start of a lifetime of civic involvement.”

This is just one of Leonardo’s acts of helping society. He is an activist waiting for his next opportunity.
